Mies van der Rohe was the Steve Jobs of architecture.

Mies was a minimalist who pushed others to simultaneously think big and sweat the details, and yet the work of his that best embodies this ethos is not the towers in New York or Chicago for which he is best known. Mies in fact saved his best for last when he designed the Toronto-Dominion Centre, completed shortly before his death in 1969. Still the largest office complex in Canada, the TD Centre is the purest expression of Mies’s insistence on considering every aspect of the tenant experience.
